September 23-29 is Banned Books Week, a week that promotes the freedom to read. Every day this week, I’ll be sharing three banned books that you should add to your TBR lists.
George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel has been banned and challenged all over the U.S. for its political and social themes, as well as for sexual content and being “pro-communist.”
It blows my mind that this book has been banned. I hope the people responsible for banning it understood the irony. The book has been banned primarily for its use of vulgar language, but also occasionally because one of the books burned in the novel is the Bible.
Banned by both American cities and Nazi Germany, Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises was usually banned for its language and sexual content, including what many saw as promoting promiscuity.
